10 Year Milestone

I recently received notification that my blog has been chosen as one of the Top 100 Genealogy Blogs this year by Feedspot. It’s always nice to be recognized, and this is the second time my blog has made the list.

The acknowledgement led me to reflect a bit, and realize that I have recently hit a 10 year milestone! This blog is now 10 years old, and likewise it has been 10 years since I completed my PLCGS and began taking clients!
So much has changed in genealogy in those 10 years, particularly in the increased use of DNA and AI technologies in our daily work.
While all careers have some element of continuing education, genealogy requires more time investment than most, since we need knowledge in history, methodology, analysis, genetics and technology. The Association of Professional Genealogists requires its members to do a minimum of 12 hours of professional development per year. But the reality is, this is a tiny fraction of the time required to keep on top of the changes we’ve seen in the last decade in how we do our work. A love of learning and a drive to continuously improve is a requirement for long term success as a professional genealogist!
I’d like to send a shout out to my clients, to thank you for 10 great years. I have been working with some of you for several years now, and feel as connected to your family tree as to my own. Thank you for letting me do what I love, and I’m looking forward to breaking through more brick walls together in the years to come!
